Watched this today -loved it! Can't beat a bit of reap what you sow drama and I found it majestic here under Refn's careful eye.

Knew absolutely nothing about it and avoided the poster and trailer. I tend to follow actors/directors so I was hoping for a treat and I wasn't disappointed.

Anchor Bay/Starz are releasing this October in the USA. Lionsgate have this for the UK but a few months before we get a Blu-ray. It's November in Germany (SunFilm) and October for France

I'm guessing late November for this one. Pre-ordered on Amazon but will seek a cheaper deal (maybe Blockbuster, Sainsbury's or Entertainment Store). I enjoyed it but it's not 5-star stuff as some reviews have put it - 4 stars from me. Definitely one that will stay in the mind and begs to be revisited - maybe even more so that Drive. So for rewatch value it's higher than Drive, but Drive is a little better in my book. Better than all of Refn's pre-Drive films that I've seen though. Look forward to his next film...or Barbarella TV series (wish he'd stuck with Logan's Run personally).

I hated this, arty long slow shots of actors just staring. It was as if the film had not been edited, but if it had it would only last 20 minutes!! Such a slight story stretched to feature length....

I loved the slow/pensive stuff reminded me (and I assume Mr Refn) of the great Apichatpong Weerasethakul

There were no 'stars' in the film which I loved too. We just had to watch and go with the flow.

There doesn't seem to be a middle ground with this film, people seem to love it or hate it.

Im looking forward to seeing which side of the fence I fall.

[IMG]And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance...

Not read any reviews so far and probably won't either. I'll take an interest in the Blu-ray specs but that's about it.

This isn't a 'Ryan Gosling film' for sure and maybe people expected something nice and simple and straightforward with no brain power or thought required.

It's a simple enough story for me, it just tells you to be careful of who you annoy especailly if you're out of your element (eg your homeland) and that you never know who you're ****ing with. A great life lesson many will never realise until someone or something gives them a kicking.

Still, there's much more to the film and maybe I added my my story to it a bit but I loved it. I also loved Refn's Fear X and there's not many agreed with me. It had a similar feel to me and I'm glad OGF hasn't bankrupted Refn like Fear X.

Fear X is on Blu-ray in Germany.

I think OGF is very brutal and I don't just mean violent. People have said it's "...not Drive 2", well It's not that far away for me. Lots of -mostly numpties- complained that Drive wasn't 'like the trailer' or there was too much talking or not enough action -***, just hire Die Hard 5 for that.

Brutal and subtle. Refn makes that possible here. He's a genius.

Die Hard 5 is available from all good outlets.

I didn't love it, so I guess I'm part of this impossible middle ground. I thought it was very good, but not as 5-star as some have given it. Likewise it's not as terrible as some others are saying. It's just as good as Drive, maybe a little less, but certainly better than Refn's other films. I think this film seperates the wheat from the chaff - those who didn't like this probably won't be interested in what he's got to say from now on. I'm excited for whatever he comes up with next, if it's the Barbarella TV show or another film.

I liked it too, but am now curious as to "Your Story" :D

I can't say much on that here or I'd have to have you killed :D

Cas's thoughtful review is up http://www.avforums.com/movies/Only-God-Forgives-review_11308/movie.html

I think the guy's on crack but it's still well written and the grammar's very good. Hey, if there's a silver lining I'll find it :)

Dunno, as a lover of 'foreign' and [e]strange[d] films I think OGF may be slightly hobbled with Gosling especially after reading Cas's excellent review. I didn't expect anything from the guy and really there's not much of him in it. The film's not much to do with his character at all and really he's [his character] only there to provide the ending's part-redemption and of course forgiveness (see: name of film) -by the [-]mofo karaoke ninja[/-] protagonist, Chang.

The film is only about Chang. His past is the future present. Anyone in his way is doomed. He may in fact be a god.

Im sure I read somewhere that the German one didn't have subtitles on certain bits or something? Something bad anyway. Was enough to put me off thinking about it - I don't really like the art on this one either though to be honest!

Yeah, this is for packaging junkies only I think -no English subtitles.

US disc is best for content.
