only allow access to local network?

hi all
I have various pcs throughout the house that are all connected through a 10/100 switch box (thingy;)) to share the broadband. Cool.

However I have a laptop (soon to be digital photo frame) that i dont want to be able to connect to the internet, but still access network drives that are mounted.

Is there anyway to block access to the internet and only allow access to local files?

thanks

If you think you really want to block internet access then in Network Connections, right click on your network adapter, select TCP/IP properties and assign a fixed IP address, set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 but set the Default gateway to the wrong address eg 192.168.0.254.

You can do the same with DNS to be really secure but I think you will then need to install Netbios over TCP to see your network shares.

Seems a bit extreme though and may cause other problems. What are you afraid of? (assuming you are using Windows Firewall and a virus checker)

cool thanks, I will try that once I have windows installed.
basically, it will be a digital photo frame that will be on (alomst) all the time, with vnc installed. I just dont want there to be any chance of someone taking over it. It will have windows firewall installed, but I'd just like to be sure.
thank you.

EDIT: works perfectly thanks pal
