    Hi all,

Im just looking at getting a phone unlocked... Just wondering if online sites are as good as brick and mortar shops?

Online sites mention an IMEI code unlock...is this the same thing?

Basically I have a phone simlocked to Tmobile which I would like unlocked to work on O2..

Thank you for any help :)

A network branded handset will be locked to that specific network. In order to use a sim card from a different network then you need to have it unlocked to all UK networks, which usually costs £20 from the network, maybe same or less from a market stall or other merchant

If a phone is lost or stolen then people can report it to their network to have the IMEI blocked. The IMEI is a unique identifying number of the handset, independent of the sim. This prevents the phone being used by someone who is not the owner. IMEI unblocking can only be sought by the original owner who requested it with the network

Removing an IMEI block by any other means is illegal and a criminal offence. Any further discussion on the matter is unfortunately not permitted on AVF
