Online game throttling in the evening by Orange

Hi,
I'm looking for a bit of advice as to how to improve my broadband connection for gaming.

Currently I'm with Orange, in the evening I get 4-5mb download speeds but find connecting to online games on my PS3 impossible (especially COD4). With speeds like that I don't think there should be a problem. During the day there is no issues, just the evening (usually 6pm to 11pm). Orange sent me a replacement router as said it might have something to do with that but the problem remains.

I currently have a BT line with the Orange router and need to change as my main requirement for Broadband is for online gaming.

Can anyone give any advice about what they think is the problem as I'm not very clued up on this. And, also what I can do to improve things.

Thanks.

depends on ping and upload speed that will effect it but you cant do a check untill later when it effects you and you cant improve because orange broadband isnt really for gaming its plusnet/be/o2/sky and maybe bt broadband are the ones you need

Thanks for that, whats the best way to check my ping. I've been using www.speedtester.bt.com but don't remember it providing me with a ping reading.
