    probably a daft question :rolleyes: do you need firewall and anti-virus running if you are playing game onlin?, think i know the answer :blush:

    AV not necessarily, but a firewall is going to be a necessity, as you're going to be online for sometime.

    Are you using Dial up or Broadband?

    Firewall is 100% needed for Broadband, with dial up I wouldn't worry too much.

    I'd have thought you'd be better off with a decent free AV as well rather than no AV, something like Avast maybe? I've not used it, but it's reputedly good.

    think he just meant while he was playing a game online. I use AVG, but normally turn it off while playing, and have never had any problems.

    I'd still be worried about messenger or something else in the background - but then I'm paranoid!
