Onkyo Unveils Android App

Onkyo are showing it's not all about iDevices and also their commitment to home entertainment convergence through the release of a new application for Android mobiles. Onkyo's Remote App for Android allows owners to stream audio wirelessly from an Android-based device to their Onkyo A/V or hi-fi system, as well as providing a range of remote control functions.

Operating over a wireless local network, the application allows Onkyo owners to play music stored on an Android device through a networked Onkyo audio system. Users can browse networked content without needing to view or operate onscreen menus on a connected TV display. Instead, they can use the touch-screen GUI on their Android device to navigate menus and control a variety of functions, such as selecting input source or adjusting volume and tone. Furthermore, users can control the output in individual zones in a multi-room distributed audio set-up. Pretty neat eh?

Available in August as a free download from the Android market, the Remote App for Android will be compatible with all of Onkyo's 2011 range of network A/V receivers, as well as with the new TX-8050 stereo network receiver.

Smartphones? They're never going to catch on!
