Hi guys, bit of a newbie to av and this is my first post so be nice! lol..

Right so looking to get a AV amp and been looking at the two named above...

From what ive read on this forum the 607 is a good amp for the money. Apart from the losing a few HDMI's the main difference i noticed was you lose 10w of power per channel.

Guess what i want to know is there a real major difference in the two amps in terms of sound quality and functions?

I'm looking to pair the amp up with the mordaunt short alumni 5.1 kit.

Essentially i'm open to other amps which are under the £500 bracket.

Thanks in advance!

If you are after sound quality then Onkyo's are not the best performers. They are very good with movies but, there are better makes for music playback IMO.

I would suggest looking at the Marantz 4003 for £340. I haven't auditioned it but, I listened to the older 4002 and it was superb!. I thought the 4002 was much better than a Onkyo 606 and better than the Yamaha 863se with music. Another plus point might be it's looks :D. Only problem is it has only 2 hdmi inputs.

Oh, by the way, don't worry too much about power specs - they are all pretty meaningless and do nothing but confuse!
