Hi Guys, I have decided to buy Onkyo TXNR609 but I am unable to find best speaker combination with it. I need some advice from you to decide on finest 5.1 speakers. Any views or opinions would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,

Hope I'm not hijacking, but I would be interested to find out what price range speakers would best suit this amp as well. Plus suggestions of make & model. Thanks.

No problem mate. Just to share with you I had a chat with exceptionalav.co.uk sales adviser and he suggested me to wait until next week for QAcoustics 2000i speakers. They are brand new in market and he is having good confidence on them. Anyone already knowing about this product, please share your views?

I use the old QAcoustics 1010i (previous model) with my Denon 1911 (which is the same 'level' as your Onk 609) and the results are very pleasing indeed .

    However...

Our amps are capable of driving more expensive and capable speakers than the Q's. It's often suggested that you should spend two or three times as much on speakers as on your amp to get the most out of it. So in theory you could actually go for something bigger and better such as B&W 685s, Dali Zensor 5s or one of the Kef ranges. These are all in excess of a grand though..

If you cant stretch to that (I can't!) then the QAcoustics 2010is will do a grand job. The new ones look pretty sexy too I think :smashin:.

    Hi all,

The best Speakers I have heard partnered with the Onkyo 609 is the Jamo D500 THX select 2.

I use the 609 & the Jamo D500's in my own system, the detail is perfect in both speech & effects,
both are THX Select 2 approved so its even better in THX mode for the Cinema feel,

    Regards, Jonathan

Probably a good idea to let us know exactly what you're using the system for - movies AND music? Or just movies? What size is your room? Are you looking for something fairly discreet, or are you not bothered by their size?

the Dali Zensor 5s get a massive thumbs up from what hifi, especially when partnered with the onkyo. and they are in your budget. pretty big boxes though.

Hi mate. If you are looking at the Q Acoustics then i can certainly recommend them. Got the 2010is last week and they great, if you have space then the 2020i's are worth the extra, they both give a fantastic sound for the size, very impressed, depending on the size of your room they are worth it for both surround films and straight music. Looking to get the center and a new amp over the next few months myself.

Looking at the Onkyo 609 (and 709/809!) as well. Was thinking about the Q Acoustics Q7000's (one end of the scale for my budget) or the Boston Acoustics XS SE (the other end of the scale for my budget!). Any thoughts on these as a set of speakers for the amp?

(Will probably be the 609 I end up going for due to tightness of purse strings but trying to keep other options on the table as late as possible!!!)

    Hi All,

I have a TXNR609 and I am having a problem setting it up.
I did all the setup for all my inputs, but when I turn the receiver off, the NET light stays on. I think that it means that my internet radios are on. How can I turn it off?
    Thanks for you help.

    Cheers,

    Rodrigo

No the Net LED means that the network is still connected so you can use the smart phone amp to turn the amp on over the network!

After trying several i can heartily recommend monitor audio's, my bx2's are perfectly matched with my 609, though id imagine any brightish speakers such as Dali or B&W will work well with warm onkyo receivers.
