Ok been following the usa threads on this unit with interest. First its based on the silcon images deinterlacer and they also use a high quality scaler. Pic is evidently awesome as some may have seen in the latest issue of HCC
but this does seem backedup for a change.
Its audio abilty is supposed to be top notch as well, infact it does seem the whole package is quality

However i just cant find this unit for sale yet and the RRP seems way over the top as quoted in the HCC rag(£2800) when in the USA you can pic it up for $1500 inc del. so a price of £1500 would seem slightly fairer.(else it will be cheaper to import and buy a transformer)

    Any thoughts

i believe the US SP1000 is actually a scaled down version of the US integra 10.5. whereas our onkyo SP1000 is the same as the US integra 10.5, so this may account for the price difference. i don't think we get the cheaper version over here. £2800 is still a rip off though. i think the US integra 10.5 sells for about $2500 over there so it should be £2000 at the most!

The European version of the Integra 10.5 is called Onkyo DV-SP1000e, and is hideously priced at €4500, compared to the $2500 for the Integra.
Google with DV-SP1000e wil result in a lot of hits.
Seems the main difference between the 1000s and 1000e is the ability to scale external sources like laserdisc, etc.

check the rear view of the UK model. note it differs from the US version as it has S-video and composite inputs for component upconversion and the second set of component outs are BNC instead of RCA. The UK SP1000 is the equivelant of the Integra 10.5 in the US. The US SP1000 is a cheaper version with no video inputs/upconversion and 2 RCA component outs. the extra features don't seem worth it for the price difference though. shame we don't get the cheaper version over here.

so an extra £1000+ just to be able to use the scaler for an external souce, seems a bit OTT.

OH well wait for the Denon with realta then

"SECRETS " have just released the shootout score of the Onkyo SP1000.

    Impressive, most impressive.

What's needed is a PowerBuy of US multi-region SP1000s with UK transformers.

Not sure over the pricing but I rate this player, stunning audio, video very close to top flight and SDI modable

There are also frequent references to a lip-sync problem with the US SP1000 model, mentioned in the US forums.
