I have been debating getting one of these cheap HTiB systems for my PS3. The Onkyo HT-S3200 is going for around 300 (USD) on amazon and the SONY HT-SS360 for around 250.
At first I would think the Onkyo is a better system but that the HDMI is pass through only. Neither support Dolby True HD at this price but the PS3 can convert it to LPCM when using a HDMI cable. So basically the SONY set-up can play HD and the Onkyo can only play Dolby Digital (because of no HDMI audio support).
So my question is… does this really make a difference? I kind of assume you cannot hear the difference between Dolby Digital and Dolby HD when using the cheap speakers that come in these packages but wanted to know if anyone thought otherwise. Does anyone have experience with one of these systems.
SONY BDV-E300 seems to have the same speakers/sub as the HT-SS360 and I don't really need the blu-ray player and such.
