Onkyo a/v TX-NR595 Volume

I Purchased an Onkyo A/V Receiver (TX-NR595) Its connected to TV Hdmi arc,dvd player and comcast box,no matter what im listening to,I have to turn volume to at least 38 to be able to hear It, i've tried every thing i can think of to hear something at lower volumes, its hooked to 5.1 speaker setup,any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!!

Have you run the receiver's auto-calibration settings sequence?

Typically.you don't get much volume until about 80%

Best to use negative setting -20db not the 0-80

If using the relative scale then 38 isn't particularly loud. I'd suggest what you are hearing and the experience you are having are normal and there's nothing you've relarted that would raise concern.


As suggested, use the relative to reference db scale as opposed to the absolute master volume scale. This makes it easier to understand the exact level of audio you are or should be hearing:

thank you rccarguy ,I had no idea,its been 12 years since i hooked up my last onkyo,i was of the mind set why even put the lower volume settingss on the receiver ,if you cnt hear decent volume till 70 or 80!! thanx again

thank you very much dante01,as i told rccarguy2,I guess its been way to long since i last hooked up an onkyo receiver, much less an onkyo a/v receiver,it just didnt make sense to me ,why i had to turn it so high ,to hear anything,thank you much, especially for the links,ill give them a read,thanx again,this is a great forum!!
