ONKYO 898 GOOD ENOUGH FOR M&K 850s

    just wondering if my onkyo 898thx reciever rated@ 110 into 8ohms would be good enough to run m&ks 850 pack, prob going to change amp in a couple of months for maybe a thx ultra 2 amp with hdmi switching possibbly,
    just didnt want to make a mistake and buy the wrong speakers, how good are the 850s anyone ?

    That's a difficult question to answer. The M&K 850 speakers are excellent - if you like the sound they make and awful if you don't. They are amongst the most dynamic and uncoloured speakers that you can buy but the sound doesn't appeal to everybody and really you should listen to them and make your own mind up on that score.

    Gonzo and Recruit love them whilst several more including myself love M&K in general but probably haven't heard these particular models and an equal number will hate the "M&K sound" and will prefer more flattering speakers.

    All M&K speakers thrive on power and as they are 4 ohm speakers aren't the easiest to drive.

    benny - the 898 should be good enough for the 850's but more power is always better than less especially with M&K speakers.
