onkyo 3405 setup... help needed

im needing help on setting up the system to produce best surround sound..

I have my ps3, skyhd plugged into it via hdmi cables..

Im just not convinced im getting the true surround sound effect..

There is sound coming out of all the speakers but it doesnt feel like its as good as it should be..

Any help would be great thanks

You need to run the audio setup on the ps3.

For skyhd you will need a optical cable then enable 5.1 in the menus

yeah ive done that, i mean what settings on the amp will give the best results for producing surround sound??

Just direct or straight (no additional processing) different manufacturers call it different things, you shouldn't be using any sound processing modes for anything in 5.1

ok so tyhere is alot of different modes like, all ch stereo, mono, direct, theatre, neo6 cinema.. im confused which one is best

all the other modes are best used with stereo sources, just use direct with 5.1. Anyway the best one is the one which sounds best to you.
