    Just a quickie,

I'm in the process of buying a surround system with optical in for dolby digital and DTS etc. I'm hoping to use the x-box as a temporary measure before buying a dvd player.

The big Q is... the optical-out that the xbox dishes out, will that allow the processor to do it's stuff??

I've got the xbox cable with the optical out and the optical cable.

a simple 'yes' or 'no' will do.

    Thanks

    MC

    Hi there.

    That'll be 'yes' :)

You just have to return to the 'box 'dashboard', where new sound options will appear (for the DD and DTS).

The XBOX comes with a standard video/audio cable that doesn't have a digital audio connection.
You have to upgrade to an Advanced A/V cable.

I use the Joytech one. It's alright.

    2) there are several choices. A mate of mine reckons there's a multi-region mod that plugs into the USB port! I'm not sure about that but I know there are solderless chips out there!

The XBOX in it's untouched state is regionless, it fixes onto the first add on kit plugged into it and remains that region. So if you import the US DVD add on kit your XBOX will play R1 only, better than crappy Reg 2 :)

    Hi,

    I'd be a bit careful.

I have a UK Xbox (bought around Xmas) and I've added a R1 remote with the intention of playing R1 dvd's.

Unfortunately, the Xbox only outputs pal and won't do ntsc unless I get it chipped.

    Brian.
