... from being so miserable all the time.
inside she was dancing ...
Would it hurt her to crack a smile and show some pride and enthusiam for her "subjects" :-(
Oh lay off her will you? She might have hurt her ankle when she parachuted into the stadium.
I think the shot of her studying her nails when TeamGB were coming through the stadium was classic. Couldn't have appeared more disinterested if she'd tried...plus a 10 word speech to open the games.
Anyone else notice the tall guy in the top right duck a bit to get in to shot?
Not everyone likes the Olympics, you know.
it was late and she is old.
I thought she was awful. Did not see her smile once even during the national anthem. The opening sentence (hardly a speech) lacked any emotion. Why bother?
She hardly smiled during that silly river pageant, neither.
Maybe she's becoming the Royal Victor Meldrew? Ie. Grumpy?
Yes I really hope we dont have another 20 years of this. She needs to handover to Charles if so, even if only as being the senior royal who attends such things. Dont turn up and look like its the last thing you want to do.
If McCartney turned up everywhere I went I'd be ****** off too.
She may be the queen, but at the end of the day she's still human and she's still just an old lady.
Actually, yes you have a good point there...
Very funny moment actually
Why "even"? The anthem isn't something anyone smiles during anyway.
As much as I like our old queen she should have at least tried to look a bit interested and happy.
After all the world was watching and it's a bit grim when she obviously wasn't happy and glorious on the night.
A rich, cosseted, privileged but ultimately apparently ungrateful one.
Noone seems to have noticed Philip wasn't there. Maybe she was worried about him.
But no, let's take cheap shots.
Phil was sitting next to her wasn't he ??
its hardly cheap shots to say she didnt look at all interested- when she didnt, even if she faked it she should have forced a smile given the enormity of the scenario, surprising that some pr team hasnt told her to because she was the biggest negative about the whole thing imo.
I dont think the only human is a decent excuse, everyone can fake a smile/interest, to think someone wouldnt in that scenario strikes me as madness
He was set next to her.
Maybe she felt airsick.
A whole stadium stand for you to arrive and then spends a minute singing your anthem and you cant even manage a small appreciative smile at the end??? Not expecting beaming ear to ear all through it but a vague acknowledgement at the end.
Fine if it is too much for her but then I dont think she should do it with the world watching. She was also the worst thing for me.
He was indeed
Because he was there, sitting next to her.....
It wasn't great but give here a break jees she's getting on you know and as for her wealth etc those who are angry she has wealth should consider if they could spend there whole life working as hard as she does.Theme a lot of inherited wealth in this country and how many of those people work let alone work their ads off for other peoples benefit.I though she showed her humour doing that short film. She never really smiles now she hasn't for years, doesn't deserve such attacks as she gets though.
As I say it wasn't great at all and I agree it is time for her to step aside though Imo glad Chiles hasn't been king the guys a joke.
Why break the habit of a lifetime, she always looks glum.
Give her a break. I'm a republican but I still admit that at 86 she's doing a pretty good job for UK PLC. At least she doesn't have to arsehole scrape foreign billionaires in the hope of getting a consultantcy when their political careers go tits up.
Love the remark about McCartney, just about spot on.
Yeah why is that? People say she has a lovely smile but I've never seen it.mind you having your family life so publicly scrutinized would make any mum look glum lol. That was poor show on her part last night but then she may not have realised team GB had arrived just thensat that very moment, she looked interested in the other shots.
The Queen has always been emotionless when the national anthem is sung or other state occasions but when you see her on visits to say schools or when she interacts with young children, she beams with a very infectious smile
Anyway, I like the anthem and I hope it doesn't change but if an overwhelming majority want to change it in the future, well that's democracy for you and I will respect that decision and sing the new anthem with the same pride as I do with GSTQ
But if you read every argument in favour of the monarchy, it stresses how she's always superb, no matter what, etc, etc.
Agreed about the end and she usually does, but my comment was in reply to one that said "even during" the anthem - quite different.
dc8900 says it all in reply to those who've said she always looks miserable - they're quite wrong and obviously haven't been watching while she did her jubilee tours for instance.
This doesn't mean I'm in favour of the monarchy - and the next will be really awful.
The only problem is that a president would be much worse still.
