I'm considering buying a second hand yamaha dsp-a2 or even an a-1 if I can stretch to it!

Apart from warranty considerations I'm thinking its better to buy a serious second hand amp as opposed to a new kid on the block.
I'm looking at spending around two-three hundred pounds.

Ok the amps i'm looking at least 5 years old but they seem to of stood the test of time.

Anyone have any advice on this?

    Thanks

It's a very wise idea - many people don't need the fanciest of the latest features available and an older model from further up the range will have much higher quality components, build and design. One thing that is worth paying for IMO is Dolby Pro-Logic 2 though. :)

I would go along with the AX5 idea. PL2 and their ilk are a godsend for none DD or DTS DVDs and TV.

Wow thanks for quick replies. Just looked around on ebay for the ax5... bit out of my price range really as 2nd hand seem to go for bout 400....

but saw the ax3 - for 300 is that worth it? Am I lookin in the wrong places?!!

just saw that hyperfi have the vsx-1014 which they claim is identical spec to ax5 for 300 quid. Bargain or?!
