Hi, I was after people's opinion on this query:
I already have a Meridian 506 CD player and a 3k-ish budget. Would it sound better to connect it digitally to a pair of 'classic' DSP5200/6000's or to a pre-amp/pair of power amps and brand new speakers in the 2k-ish range.
I'm happy to audition speakers and wonder whether speakers in my price range have caught up to Meridian's older digital speakers?

    Many thanks for any responses

Personally I'd go with a pair of second hand DSP5200's if you can find them at a good price. 3k for a new amp and speaker setup won't really get close to the 5200's transparency & control IMO.

How much should I expect to pay for a pair of black DSP5200's (non SL legacy)?

Depending on condition I'd estimate anywhere between £2500-3500. They don't show up too often second hand so you might have a little wait.

I'm sure some dealers would be willing to do a deal with a ex demo pair in the £4500-5000 region with a bit of haggling!

I'm saving for a pair of the SE's.

    Thank you Craig uk

In the meantime, I'll continue to enjoy my M60's, which sound even better than before with a newly acquired G68ADV using Meridian Room Correction.

Good advice here, definitely go for Meridian DSP active speakers.
