I'd like to know the story behind the Tweeter Design, two clusters of 7 tweeters plus an additional tweeter between them (15 tweeters total). I believe these speakers are US$12,000/pair. They sound pretty sweet. That person has obv spent a lot of money on their gear, so it seems a bit odd they'd have them monstrosity shoved up against the sideboard like that. As for the speakers, well the specs are decent, but I can't get past the excess of it all. I'd be spending my 12k elsewhere.
True they are very odd looking, but from the video, they do sound pretty sweet. Absolutely crisp, detailed and life-like snare drum, and absolute clarity and realism in the Stand Up Bass. But they are monsters, they weight 200 pounds (90.7kg), over 6ft tall (1854mm), and they would need a significant room to handle them. I can find no indication that they are Ported, so perhaps being moderately close to a wall is not terrible, but I agree, in the video, they need to be forward a bit. 2x12" Bass drivers 4x7" Mid-Bass 15x Tweeter Array Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. For me results are more important than appearance, but even I have to agree this is a very odd design. As far as colors, they are only available in a variety of Painted Colors - Steve/bluewizard
And unless you hear them live, you can't possibly tell the difference between Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon .... right? You can't discern precisely how these speakers sound, but you can discern that they sound good. Steve/bluewizard
I wonder if they theory is that the more fugly they are the more your ears appreciate them? And the finishes look hideous as well. For 12K they really should have some nice wood finishes (I'm sure a local under-taker probably has some decent timber already cut to the right size) and something to hide the speaker rings - they are hideous as well.
Some reviews. Plus, some interesting comments and a cracking reference to Terry Gilliam's animation: Tekton Design Double Impact Floorstanding Speaker Reviewed Tekton Designs Double Impact Loudspeakers Tekton Design Pendragon Tower Speakers Review - HomeTheaterHifi.com
Tekton Design Double Impact Floorstanding Speaker Reviewed Conclusion As I stated at the beginning of this review, I was and still am totally amazed at what Eric Alexander has achieved in his new revolutionary patented design that led to the creation of the Double Impact speaker. I want to be very clear that the Double Impact is not just a great speaker at its very reasonable price. Rather, it is a reference-level speaker that will compete and actually out-class the performance of some other speakers costing thousands of dollars more, from some of the most trusted names in speakers. Tekton Designs Double Impact Loudspeakers Conclusion Make no mistake, the Tekton Design DIs are among the best loudspeakers I have heard in my home, regardless of price. Tekton Design Pendragon Tower Speakers Review - HomeTheaterHifi.com The bottom line is that I’m keeping the review speakers. They do enough good things and so few bad ones that I believe they will work well not only in my current room but also in any future listening room. I can drive the speakers with 12-watt tube amplifiers, and with their high sensitivity they’ll be more than loud enough. So my conclusion is that the Internet buzz for the Tekton Design Pendragons is justified. These are great speakers on an absolute basis and when their price is considered, I also consider them an outstanding bargain. Keep in mind this last review is for the Pendragons, not the Double Impact. Seems like a pretty solid endorsement Steve/bluewizard
That's all well and good but they all still look like they've been used for target practice. Definitely has a face only a mother could love. For 12k, not only sound but also aesthetically appealing will be a big factor. Still, beauty is in the eye of the beholder
^ It is said that blind people develop much improved hearing perception - perhaps that is whom these speaker are for. For everyone else however, there is the danger of the pristine sound being compromised by the sound of someone retching in the corner
I take it back. These are ones that only a mother could love. Even then i'm not sure that is love. probably just acceptance. https://t-ec.bstatic.com/images/hotel/max1280x900/145/145722042.jpg
Ive seen some sights, believe me... I much prefer the 2nd ones though, looks precise and then you see a huge sub or two...
.. for which you pay another $150. I wonder why it's optional, given that it's a necessity. OTOH, I can't see the point of using 15 tweeters instead of 1 electrostatic panel. Googling on those keywords shows that I'm not alone (Tekton Design Ulfberht Floorstanding Speaker Reviewed)
What’s the point in having tweeters 6 feet in the air when seated most of the sound will be going literally over your head and who in their right mind pays 12k for a pair of speakers and then bungs a bloody great big chair right in front of one of them!!!
With a piece of living room furniture that they are stood besides i would say the wife had a large opinion when choosing the speakers.
