...I brought Van Helsing R2 yesterday. :suicide:
When will I ever learn. However, there was an interesting I saw reference the Monster Legacy Box Set that many of us were lucky to get earlier in the year from the US...

This particular for the ad shows the box set as it is PLUS four more movies...Creature From The Black Lagoon, The Mummy, Phantom Of The Opera plus another that slips my mind...bearing in mind that my copy of Van Helsing is the R2 version, is this box set being released over here with the 4 extra movies...?

OK - ignore me. A very short search on Play.com revealed this available 25th of this month.
I paid £33 for mine from DVDSoon and didn't get hit by customs...I really don't think the other 4 movies are worth another £30...with the 4th one being The Invisible Man of course...

I bought the R4 a few weeks back but havent got around to watching it, I saw it at the cinema and I neither liked it nor hated it, somewhere in between I guess lol but my sister loved it and I work with someone who also loves it, not my place to tell them what they should and shouldnt like so if they like it I am happy for them.

watched this film and it tells you everything about the modern blockbuster - over blown, bad direction, bad script and bad characterisation.

i watched it on Saturday, i wasnt expecting much but what i did get was every worse than i imagined. it really is one big action set peice after another. i truely awful film. its just an expolsion in a CGI factory.

And a very bad CGI factory at that! :D

Dark?!?! This was about as dark as the average Muppet movie!

Dim, most definitely - but dark?!?!

Family Guy - there's a way to redeem your lost soul. Place the Van Helsing disc on top of your Monster Legacy box set at midnight on The Sabbath, and the Van H disc being the work of The Devil will crumble into ashes! :smashin:

Phantom Of The Opera (it's the colour remake with Claude Rains) is already available as a R1 and R2 single disc with lots of extras. Creature From The Black Lagoon, The Mummy, and (the one you can't remember) The Invisible Man are released this month as region one Legacy editions that match the packaging of the first three Monster Legacy editions. Each edition comes complete with its full complement of sequels, Creature with 2 sequels, The Mummy with 4 and The Invisible Man with 4. In addition, each is packed with the usual quality extras synonymous with this series.

My only worry is will they release these in a box complete with busts a couple of months down the line? Anybody know if this is on the cards? Might hang fire on ordering them and see.

By the way, read a post on here from someone who said that he had heard that The Invisible Man was crap. People that spread evil lies like that should be boiled in their own waste products. Not only is the movie one of the best Universal classic monster entries, but it is one of the best vintage Hollywood movies ever. Loads of fun!

And remember what the gypsies say about the evil that is Van Helsing...

"Even a man who is pure of heart,
And says his prayers by night,
Might buy this disc when the mind is weak,
Even though he knows it's sh**e!"

Yeah, I'm going to hold off to see if the are doing busts for this set as well. Now that would be pretty sweet.

Yeah - they sold shedloads with the busts so they know they're popular. Wouldn't put it past them to sell us the individual sets then put out a box with the busts.

Marketing - doncha jus' love it?

One thing I noticed about this disc...the sound is really poor compared to what I heard at the cinema...I have the R2 single disc (until the sabbath that is...). Has anybody else noticed this?
I've a feeling I'm actually starting to notice pal speed up you know...everything sounded to me to be at the wrong pitch and things weren't as loud as they were...

Wondering if anyone local has the R1 disc they could lend me for a comparison...?(Surrey/M25 area...)

Also, some info on the new legacy sets coming out on the 19th October:
The Invisible Man 5 movies!!!
The Mummy 5 movies again!!!
The Creature From The Black Lagoon ONLY 4 movies this time

I couldn't find any info on what I believe is the fourth legacy set - The Phantom Of The Opera...but I believe there were never any "sequels" made of this classic...

Think you'll find that the "Creature" set has only 3 movies and a documentary.

You're correct that there were no sequels to "Phantom" but Universal does own the rights to the Lon Chaney, Claude Rains and Herbert Lom versions, and these would make an ideal Legacy collection.

Perhaps they might consider this to co-incide with the cinema release of the new musical version...

And don't forget - we need to know if it has a DTS soundtrack, so that some of us know whether to buy it or not. :D

I was far more impressed with the DVD than the movie.

Movie was ok, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching it because it really shows off your system - all the tiny details in the sets really stand out if you have an HDMI link and a good screen.

Will definitely be watching it a few times, just admiring the picture.
