Tomorrow I'm going to take the bull by the horns and I'm going to buy a Denon but which one is the best.

Denon DHT 500 or the Denon DHT 550. I like them both but which one.

    Help me :lease:

The Denon 550 is the better specced product so if you don't mind spending a little extra go for that one.

If still undecided might be worth you checking out reviews via one of the stickies in this forum?

I have had this issue for a while now. The way i see it the biggest advantages of the 550 over the 500

550 has active sub (better for bass and takes stress of amp)
550 therefore can go 6.1 (need to buy extra speaker £60)
550 is separates so when you want to upgrade to HD DVD you can upgrade and keep existing speakers/amp etc.
550 I have been told has better sound quality than the 500 but not heard it myself.
    550 has more DSP modes
550 has better terminals on the speaker and amp

The 550 is approx £542 and the 500 approx £419 so i think it comes down to are you willing to pay £123 more for the features above. If you dont need any of them then the 500 is a quality peice of kit.

Decide quick though as i have left it too long and am now looking at Denon 1905 amp with Canton speaker package seperates! I spend more time researching than buying!

    Hope this helps

all in ones are by their nature limited, why spend the money on something like the 1905 and cantons, (add a DVD player and it does all the same as well as lots more)

Is one of the key factors for an amp not the quality of the power supply and all in ones due to their size have to use a smaller and lesser quality version?

My logic is if you want a system pleasing to the eye and you want any easy setup the 500 and 550 will be the choice.

I am still unsure how much difference a 1905 and canton setup will have quality wise over the 550. Horney dragon you have any opinion?

Sorry if this appears to be a thread hijack :lesson:

the biggest problem i have with all in ones is the fact you have to bin them and start again if you want/ need to uprade any part..............seperates tend to soune better too
