Thank you Jagex, you have redeemed yourself in my opinion.

The game I - and potentially a lot of you - loved about 7 years or more ago has been brought back due to popular demand. I imagine it is due to the huge popularity of the 2006scape server proving to Jagex two home truths:

    1. They can still make a lot of money off pre-2007 RS.
    2. Nobody but the youngest of our generations want to play what they have evolved RS in to.
    3. There was a 3. but I forgot what it was, lol.

For me what Jagex always did wrong was to introduce changes to fix things that were broken. The Grand Exchange and Wilderness being the major ones.

So as a result Jagex put up a vote, where if 50k paying members votes yes on the 2007 version they would reintroduce it for an additional membership fee. Within hours it smashed the 250k mark and is now heading to 500k, the increments which dictate how much support the server will hold. If 500k is reached by March a dedicated team will support the game and in theory create an alternate timeline. I wouldn't mind them updating textures and the resolution, maybe even the camera but aside from that the game seems perfect as is.

I am very happy about this and wanted to share the news. It only started this weekend so only a small group of hardcore gamers are anywhere near the higher levels.

Sign up, vote and enjoy if you loved 'Old School' RS!

I remember the oldschool Runescape. Played hell out of it for ages.

I haven't followed it in a while, but.. What changed?

I lost interest around 2005 and came back briefly in 2008 I think.

They just kept piling stuff on that they didn't need. They took away the Wilderness PvP aspect, they added the Grand Exchange which took a lot out of the community/trading aspect of the game. They added strange, unnecessary skills like Construction and Summoning - even Gardening was a push. The last skill update I enjoyed was Slayer.

The only good updates were probably the new graphics/sound updates as well as UI improvements. A lot of people regard the pre-2007 era the Golden Age of Runescape, shown because now the Evolution of Combat update has gone live they have lost members to the 'Old School' server.

Yeah give it a look on their website mate.

This is how oldschool my account is - Here is my username, the kind that would appear on your friends list...

[#494199438] EDIT: Just changed this to TheBigAin, since TheNameIsJam was taken! :(

I've not played Runescape since the runes/pebbles + the sword were in the logo. Freaking loved that game/version.

I take it the new one is just convoluted? There's just too much choice and too much 'profession'?

What is deemed "Old School Runescape"? Because I lost interest after it went all 3D and stuff in 2004. This is what Runescape is to me...

I'm not 100% sure Jambo I stopped playing before they made most of the major changes, but yes I think the brunt of it is they just kept layering stuff on top until it became unrecognisable.

I'm assuming they used the title Old School because they already used Classic for RS 1 which scanz just spoke of. Like I said it's around 2007 before the Grand Exchange opened. And it is so freaking good!

If anybody signs up my tag is:

    Jonesy lmao

I just jumped on Runescape using an oldschool account. I tried to equip an Axe [from the olden days], but I apparently don't have a high-enough Attack skill! Yet, I'm level 18!

Why isn't one level enough??! lol

I thought this old character was the balls back in the day. He ain't **** now!

Depends on the grade of axe? I know I can equip bronze and iron at level 1 attack :p

I think I need to abandon this old gear haha. I'm sure I'll get new-better stuff by performing battle tutorials!

How does it feel to be back online? :p Felt awesome for me. But harder! I'm used to starting a new character and having a financial backing from friends or previous characters but this time I have nothing. Having to fish to lobsters so I can afford the runes to become a Mage in the first place :p

    All fun though

My character was a 'pure', setup for PK'ing

Had quite a lot of stuff and was wealthy in the game. Had all sorts of party hats, Halloween masks and what not. Gave my account away in the end and guessing it has been round the blocks and up to no good because I get the occasional email from Jagex regarding warnings and violations

Could have probably made a little money off it - I used to see them go on eBay for £100 or so.

Best game ever back then, when 124 was the level cap... They were the days. Now it's 138 and everything is just madness, updates galore, crap new skills.

It just turned boring, I might give it a go again but I've been 2 years run escape free, it was my addiction haha.

Yeah sign up and add me mate: Jonesy lmao. Or send me the username you sign up with if you do because there seems to be an issue with the game recognising spaces in names.

It's really good to be back without all the rubbish. It could do with getting a resolution boost so we can fit more on the screen and a fullsize mode but apart from that it is brilliant. Already up to lobsters :D Only 6,000 away from the fishing guild apparently haha.
