Just out of curiosity why do people prefer not to know games review scores? It's never really ruined any surprises for me. Surely reading the body of the review helps formulate your own opinions better than any throwaway scoring system could?

I get updates via RSS from this forum so it's very difficult to miss them unfortunately.

Just out of curiosity why do people prefer not to know games review scores? It's never really ruined any surprises for me. Surely reading the body of the review helps formulate your own opinions better than any throwaway scoring system could?

I just like reading the review without knowing the score, otherwise when I read it, I feel like I'm just searching the review for the reason they gave the game a particular score.

I subscribe to OPM but there are a fair few reviews which annoy me. Pro Evo 2008 vs FIFA 08 was a particular one. Every other magazine, and the review threads on here are praising FIFA and complaining about how Konami got Pro Evo so wrong. Even Seabass himself has said they are starting from scratch for Pro Evo 2009. But OPM are still sticking by their review of Pro Evo fawning over it, and moaning about FIFA being 'too hard to score'...!! Would the fact that the Pro Evo review was 'exclusive' have anything to do with it?!

F1 Championship Edition was the worst example. Some of the best graphics on the PS3 so far, great fun with SIXAXIS steering, very good game. The reviewer slated it because they didn't particularly think F1 can translate into a game. Well done, you've harmed the sales of a great game because you decided to review the sport of F1 instead. Genius.

This month, they review UT3 and mark it significantly down due to their love-in with CoD4. Don't get me wrong CoD4 is a very good game, but it is too short, too linear, and suffers from endlessly respawning enemies etc, so not perfect. Then they slate UT3 because the single player is just a series of bot matches, and the AI sometimes decides to do something that the reviewer didn't want them too (as if they have uber control over every online player!). It seems like most of the review is a big bot rant. For a predominantly multiplayer game. Strangely they didn't slate Warhawk for having zero singleplayer...

Soldier of Fortune and The Club both get the CoD4 treatment, even their intro to the review section goes on about it. Sorry OPM but you should review each game on its merits, UT3 is not a direct competitor to CoD4, it's not trying to do the same thing, you've already written your CoD4 review now move on.

like legion i just got my new issue through the post, just got in with little daughter so just had a quick scan, will have a read when she goes bed later, altough looked on the big 10, number 2 is motorstorm 2 and it says by the time you are reading this you will have already seen the new trailer, and altough its all cgi , it gives some indicating of where the series is going, so anyone hoping for ingame footage next week, hard look, over all i think this months issue looks good, cant wait to have a read later.

aliens sounds amazing with 4 player online co op and there is a huge article on gta IV (the review is next months)

also the haze delay is explained, it was due to the mantel guys weapons were to powerful and easily outclassed the mercenaries but now its evened up, also mentions timesplitters will benifit alot from this.

yeah i went on neogaf forums and they all still think its gonna be ingame stuff shown, just because a friend of a friend of a friend reckons they saw it running recently ill go with the mag and expect cgi trailer, considering the game is not gonna be out till xmas they are not gonna show ingame video this early. i still havnt read through the mag yet, my daughter just gone back to her mothers tonight so will have a read through later tonight or tomor while on tea brea.
Quick look through on rumour machine and" ps3 version of gow3 wont be out till xmas 09", "the bbc reckons sony has a amazing secret game in the works for 2009. we say its not so secret", "sony already has ingame version of ps3 xmb up and running", "capcom is developing dead rising for mutiple platforms, including ps3"
one that got me is the game that bbc saw and opsm saying game not so secret, so what game could this be??
