I have Freeview at home but decided to check out if I could officially receive it. The signal strength is usually arround the 70% strength mark.
Guess what? The official Freeview site says that my postcode area cannot receive Freeview.
    I don't understand.

The Freeview checker isn't 100 % accurate for more than one reason.
To be totally accurate they would have had to spend a fortune plotting actual results in every postcode in the UK.
Instead I am sure they will have used link margin and path profile software to estimate this , hopefully backed up by enough sample realworld measurements to prove that it was accurate enough to be usable.
Also with the frequencies involved, it is quite possible for your house to have good reception but next door to have problems.
Finally results change as new buildings go up, trees lose their leaves etc. etc.

I live in a bungalow and it is the only one in the Street which can't get a good Freeview signal. Even with a booster I can only get the BBC channels due to the path of the signal being blocked by large tall trees so that the aerial cannot "see" the transmitter. All my neighbours get excellent reception. So the postcode checker could not possibly account for instances like this.
After spending a lot of money on a new aerial which didn't really improve reception, I solved the problem by opting for Freesat from Sky which is a little publicised offering from Sky. (I wonder why it is not publicised more by Sky). You get a dish, Sky digital box and installation for a one off payment of £150 (it may have increased a little now). There is no monthly subsciption to pay.

The postcode checker is pretty accurate where I live. Its basically says only the bbc channels are available and yep that's all I can get reliably after a expensive aerial upgrade. The others are pretty much hopeless.

I now use freesat instead. :)

I have freeview in my motorhome, so I tune in all over the place :) A 70% signal strength may not get you all the channels...I had 70% the other day and could not get ITV and a few others.

I thought this was a limited offer. Sky are not going to support this service free indefinitely.
