Well I've had no issues at all with my PS3 until the weekend - hooked up new 50" TV, brother wanted to see what Blu-Ray could do so I decided that Casino Royale was a good example...

Nothing. Put disk in and nothing happens, can't select the disk or auto play because it does not register. It's worked fine in the past so I checked the disk - there isn't a mark on it, seriously, it's like a mirror - not even dust or finger prints let alone scratches. I gave up and tried another disk, no problems whatsoever, my other films seem fine. Casino Royale used to work, it was my first Blu-Ray - does anyone have any ideas? I'm concerned this will happen on other disks, as I said I would try and clean it but there's nothing to clean... I tried it out this morning too, same thing. :(

Hi,

I'm not that up on Blu-Ray knowledge, but:

Assuming your PS3 is a UK one, was the "Casino Royale" BR disc bought in the UK, or imported? If it's a UK-one, then I don't know why it's not playing the disc. If it's a non-UK disc, then that may be the reason it's not playing it.

However, are you also sure that the PS3 isn't actually playing the disc at all, or is it playing it, but you haven't selected the right output option on your TV? Double-check all the cables and wiring, just to make sure everything is plugged in satisfactorily. :)

Cheers Pooch,

Disk is UK and used to play fine, I put it in and PS3 whirrs for a sec then stops - I can play other Blu-Rays no problem so wiring is fine - I don't even get the disk icon in the video tab... That's why I'm confused, it's quite annoying really as I've no way of knowing if the problem might happen on other disks - they ain't that cheap to throw away! :(

Hi,

As I don't own a BR player nor a PS3, I can only summise, that if the disc is of UK origin, and the PS3 plays all other BR discs fine, then the problem lies with the Casino Royale disc.

It sounds like there's something that is causing the PS3 to reject it, but I have no idea why or what. Sorry. :(

From what you're saying this seems to have happened after you hooked up to your TV which makes it sound like a handshake issue except I wouldn't expect the same problem every time you attempt to play it. I used to get loads of handshake issues with my PS3. Here's a thread I started on it.

Have you tried your old or another TV?

Its worth noting that if any player decides to reject a disc for being the wrong region the disc will usually generate an onscreen message.

Bluray differs from dvd in that wrong region messages on dvd were always generated by the player whereas Bluray discs carry the warning themselves.

The only 2 discs I've ever seen where the disc just refuses to play if set to the wrong region were UK discs of Suspiria and The Railway Children (although pressing MENU after playback refusal was enough to get round that on TRC)
