First and foremost i hope it is ok to post ebay deals. I had 3 offers accepted of £100 for an Oculus Rift DK2 from 3 different sellers on ebay who were advertising the DK2 for nearly £150. I honestly didnt expect one of them to be accepted never mind all 3. Needless to say i had to cancel a couple of orders. I know the DK2 has been replaced with the CV1 but i know for sure all the release games are supported with the DK2. Im honestly not sure how low a price I actually could have got it for but your willing to try yourself if you fancy it.

    These are the sellers

    Why bother with a DK2?

be careful..... oculus runtimes are forced updates, they roll out and you cant stop them.... however, oculus officially said there is no promise of support for DK2 from Jan the 1st this year. I a msure whilst it is no hassle to do so, they will continue supporting it, but it may be on borrowed time.

I suppose it will carry on working with steamVR as an openVR HMD however, and for £100, its a great way to see elite dangerous in (most of) its glory

Thanks, I have just ordered one. At £100 I think it's worth a gamble as I would like to experience VR but don't wish to spend over £500. Please recommend some demos and games that are compatible with the DK2.

There is loads of free stuff on oculus store most is decent quality

Elite dangerous, ets2, pcars, assetto corsa, fly inside fsx, doom 3 bfg fan mod, subnautica are all no brainers paid content, and a lot of them are quite cheap when on offer.

Luckys tale is a nice free platformer hell there is so much free stuff on oculus store just get all dlc not touch exclusive

Steam has some good bits and bobs for the vive but a lot obviously is motion control supported nivek will possibly have some advice for you there if he reads this

Its pretty simple to set up, so long as you have a free hdmi or dvi slot on your gpu. Best suck it and see and then post back IF you have problems. I doubt you will.
    Hi
Oh dont rely on google hits for compatible software if they are over 12 months old.

Oculus updated their software and broke everything a few years back and a lot of early dk2 stuff was never fixed. If it works on cv1 tho afaik it works on your dk2, albeit you may have some graphical artefacts due to differences in screen and lens tech (i sold mine before my cv1 arrived but am sure there will be some dk2ers here, if not, well you need an ocukus account anyway to get the software so dont forget the ocukus forums

The absolute number 1 top top tho . In VR framerate is king. On a monitor you may saccrifice a few fps and put up with some dips for extra eyecandy. In vr is is a path to nausea, you want in your dk2 to be hitting a steady 75fps. Fag packet maths ball park to give you an idea, on a 1080p monitor that is probably somewhere between 100 and 120 fps.

I am not sure if asynchronous space warp (a trick to fill in missing frames with cv1) works on DK2. Best bet is unlike normal where you probably start a game in ultra and dial back, in vr its best to start on low and take baby steps forward.

Wow... VR already has retro hardware. Pirates will be emulating the DK2 using their Raspberry Pi 5s before we know it, forcing Facebook to release a DK2-mini :)

Elite Dangerous would be my pick for DK2 experience. Blaze Rush is also an awesome DK2 experience. Dunno whether DK2 is supported but I've been enjoying some couch / gamepad VR with Chronos recently. I also recall UE4 Rollercoaster being brilliant in the DK2. And of course there are the... ahem... more specialist video experiences that should still work fine for DK2.

Unfortunately so much has moved on to room scale / motion control. You might find some old threads on here full of excited DK2 owners recommending experiences.

Its obsolete hardware now but I can see the appeal of spending only £100 on a DK2 just to try before splashing out five times that on the modern hardware. Have fun ;)

Also nice to see a PC VR thread in the PC Gaming forum after the Gods decided that all PC based VR (but not console VR) needed to be divorced off to the generic Tech & Gadget forum

don't go off that list I say this as it contains a bunch of stuff I know are not supported as I bought them!.

basically AFAIK if it works on CV1 and its not motion control it will work on DK2......

I have my oculus store up now... I must admit whilst in VR as an experience it spanks steam.. but as an easy to peruse store front (which is kind of its raison d'etre) it is rubbish!.

    these are all free
    hero bound,
    luckys tale,
    jaunt vr,
    mission ISS,
    abe vr,
mountain goat mountain (crap on phone, good in vr)
    , big screen beta,
    Dear angellica,
    rapid fire history of flight,
    through the ages,
    senza peso,
    oculus dreamdeck,
    discoveryVR,
    invasion,
    Henry,
    farlands,
    lost
    We Wait

oh on steam try the demo of no limits roller coaster

The Overload demo works well on the DK2 as well. It's from the people that made Descent. Might make you a little sick if you haven't got your VR legs yet as it's a lot faster than Elite Dangerous.

Going to give it a try - put an offer on one at £90 for a bit of a novelty - really interested in the VR experiences type stuff (horror, roller coasters that sort of thing) as we have a basic phone VR unit which is good fun and the daughter loves it.
For that price I would happily put up with it's shortcomings versus £600 for a HTC or CV1

I'm thinking of grabbing one too. I feel happier dropping £100 on one for a first headset rather than going all out for a full priced setup. I guess that even if Oculus drop support for the DK2 it will still have uses / unofficial support so I am sure I will get my money's worth out of it.

If anyone wants to share which ebay sellers accepted your offers and how low you went then that would be useful, I will likely order one this weekend.

Yeah that one I posted also turned me down at 95 - so they may as well not be accepting offers really.
Think I will buy one from someone else just to spite them now LOL.

    Edit:
Went for the one on your linke @Rog69 and accepted at £100 instantly.
Looks like I may have overspent this month on coming back to PC gaming! Should be able to put my new 1070 through it's paces though.

Found this last night - Assetto Corsa VR Setup Guide - UPDATED - Rift Racer - appears to have been updated recently and still quotes the DK2.

Sadly missed DPD this afternoon so will be here tomorrow. Looking forward to it - but I am in the process of putting together a new PC build so it may have to wait bar a bit of testing ;)

DPD left mine with my neighbour so I have it! Unfortunately I am pretty busy tonight so I don't get to play just yet. I also need to get my head around how I am going to set it up in my small man cave.

Edit - All set up and wow, this thing is a lot of fun. Only problem I have so far is getting the kids to stop playing Lucky's Tale and get out of my mancave.

@MooCow - Don't make the mistake I did when setting up by following the instructions in the box to download the software, just sign up and get the main installer from the website, the files referenced in the booklet are no longer there or needed, I wasted way too much time looking for them.

Cheers Rog, just been through and downloaded the Oculus app directly and OMG it's incredible!
Leaps and bounds ahead of the phone VR we have. Will fire up some more stuff later this evening as it's pretty unsociable LOL. I could be plugged in for hours playing about in virtual worlds.
Looking for some VR experiences to try now - will see what I can find and post back

I only need glasses for reading and close up stuff and I don't need them on to use the rift or even the phone VR headset I have, everything is perfectly clear. With the DK2 that I have you get an alternative set of lens' and there is some adjustment there too.

I am not sure how it works for people who need glasses for their distance vision though.

I wouldn't bother with VR if you wear glasses right now. I tried it before I got laser surgery, and I found it quickly became uncomfortable.
