You may still be in with a shout for a good theme next month.

      Unless of course @snerkler wins.

He managed to choose a theme of "Hometown" when I was in Iceland (the country, not the shop).

@MeanDorris, this is a bit off topic but any tips for northern lights photos (using a 6D and have 14mm Samyang and 24-104 canon). Reading up seems to suggest shutter speed of around 2s and then balance aperture and iso from there ?

Didn't get any Northern Lights while I was there I'm afraid so can't help much.

However, I would say wide angle and 2s or maybe a bit more sounds about right, depending on intensity of the lights and the amount of movement.

Obviously keep ISO as low as you can for decent exposure, any foreground interest you have in the frame will likely dictate your aperture, but if just going for sky keep it wide open.

I think you will find 2s too short unless the lights are very strong. I've had a look through some of my past images and some exposures have been 15-20s even when using a Sigma 18-35 1.8 wide open and 3200 ISO. In these cases the lights have been little more than a fuzzy grey line in the sky (almost indistinguishable from cloud) but can still result in a good picture. With stronger lights then you can decide whether you want to capture the structure of the lights (shorter exposure) or the movement (longer exposure).

Another factor will be the moon - if you have a full moon a brighter sky will mean longer exposures as it competes with the lights -although it can make for more interesting pictures as you get a better illuminated landscape.

For the last week around here the sky has been a solid grey block. Haven't had much chance for any kind of interesting shot. Hopefully that will change before the end of the month!

I’ve had either clear blue skies or one tone grey skies, neither having anything in the way of interest either  ;)

I either have time and no sky or sky and no time or sky and no camera.
      It's very frustrating!
Woke up the other morning to a glorious sunrise, snapped from the window then went and got dressed to go out and find a better viewpoint - of course the sky hard turned off like a light while I was getting ready :(

How would I best go about making sure a photo is within the dimensions and size listed in the rules?

My backgarden isn't terribly photogenic and I don't think the neighbours would be impressed if I went sprinting through the churchyard in my slippers and dressing gown  :)
