A little off topic as its purely DIY.

I am currently laying new water mains pipe, as the old pipe is lead.

Is it acceptable to have 3 main entries into the house? (all spurring off the 1 mains under the pavement)?

Its just easier for us to run the mains outside underground than run internal piping. This would obviously mean we have 3 main stop cocks in doors.

Any guidance / info would be appreciated

Anyone had any any experience of the surestop cocks? How do they fair to the usual metal tap ones?

    Thanks

We have recently done this on a barn conversion and have also done this before. After discussions with the Architect and client, due to common sense it was a much easier way to approach the plumbing layout, etc.

The Surestop are a good product but they must be operated when there is a minimum specified flow of water through it. Hence they are usually installed in conjunction with a regular stop cock.

    Thanks for the advice :)

On another note, does the new piping have to be inspected before we cover it in earth again?

It is normally inspected via the water board or whatever they are called nowadays. They also have to be at a depth of 750mm - 1000mm. When building in other towns, we have been told various other depths.
