NW-HD5H - Immune to button cracking?

Hi all,
Just my thoughts on the button cracking issue:
I've had my HD5H for a week now, no sign of cracking buttons! Before buying it my friend let me have a look at his HD5, he treats it like crap, all scratched up, throws it about etc.. but no cracked buttons!
The thing I noticed is his buttons are slightly different to mine so I was wondering if there is any evidence of HD5H buttons cracking - just thinking they might be immune if produced using a different method?

tbh I think its all a bit hyped and very few peoples buttons have actually cracked, even those which have do not impede the players functionality!
So glad I bought this before its discontinued, best battery life, replaceable battery, new version of sonic stage out soon, QUALITY metal build, nice small form factor, AMAZING sound quality, ATRAC3Plus, low failure rate, good interface and (personally) I like the styling! imo the best player out there at the moment.

:)

Wow! A truly satisfied customer, then?

I'm an HD5H owner, and I've already made public that it's the player I've enjoyed the most out of several I've owned in the past couple of years. And so far, no sign of cracks in the buttons. You might want to check out the extensive button cracking thread started by johann1979 - it has a lot of detail about the issue and plenty of useful info on the subject, if you're interested. Though it does seem that no one has reported a cracking HD5H yet, so fingers crossed! Similarly, very, very few black HD5s seemed to have suffered with the problem ... so perhaps black = no crack?

Hmmm, interesting and pointless view.

My son's siilver HD5's buttons cracked after 2 months (bought from a Sony Centre in Devon, UK) and so I now feel that it is a widespread problem. Interesting that Sony have a procedure for dealing with this fault.

And

I wonder if you would be happy to buy a car and the paint starts peeling off to be told " it doesnt impede its function sir, stop complaining". Read the UK sales of goods act.

I think that last comment of yours is rather silly, but as this is a free forum you are entitled to your own opinion as am I.

Hi,
I'm talking about the HD5H not stock HD5 :) imo its such a great player that the button cracking is really a non-issue. Good to hear that Sony now have a procedure to deal with it - adds value to the player:)

No cracks on my NW-HD5H either, after a couple of months fairly solid use. I think the cracking problem applied to the earlier NW-HD5's, and has since been rectified on later models. At least my friend, who has more recently bought a black HD5 isn't complaining. The black model is lovely btw, I wish they made a black HD5H.

I've had my HD5H since it came out on sonystyle's website. No button cracks.. huge dent, misty screen, scratched paint, stratched screen.. But i dont really care as it still plays music.. (albeit with some lockups)

I use one of those nice coloured skins you get on eBay, but when I last checked, there were no cracks either. Had it 4 months already (20GB version)..

Are you going to get the dent fixed? you can get to the back by taking it apart, its not too hard. Got any dust under the screen by the way?
