To the best of my knowlege there isn't one. It might be refering to the custom EQ settings.

Wrong that they should say it has when it hasn't but somehow I don't feel deprived or cheated.

It's for listening to after all, not looking at...lol

And still I say, I can't see this reference. On what part of the page you linked to, KiNeL, is this bogus claim made?

    About 1/2 way down:

    1.5",1.5", 7-Line Backlight LCD Display
1.5", 7-Line Backlit LCD Display will display track number, bit rate, elapsed time, song title, artist name, spectrum analyzer, play mode, bass, AVLS, and shows battery life indicator.

I'll lend you a pair of glasses if you need them!

Hang on! I've worked out what they mean. It's another example of them being economical with the truth - bit like ' ... supports WMA ...' What I believe they're referring to is that bit of the display which shows when you adjust the volume up or down. There's a tiny S1 (or whatever) that appears beside it, indicating which EQ setting you're currently using. That's the only logical explanation - but very misleading, I agree ...

No, "economical with the truth" would be when they tried to imply the display could automatically rotate as you moved the HD5 around (neglecting to point out you had to switch it off and on to make that happen), but to say it has a "spectrum analyzer" is just a complete falsehood :thumbsdow

yeah its probably the S3 thing next to the volume, its only thing left on the screen that they didn't mention apart from bookmarks and genre (assuming the play/stop/pause and unit are under play mode)

hang on, bass? maybe on my MD but i dont see it here.

Oh yeah, does the G sensor work then the player is off? Like half the time you are going to drop it when its off and if the G sensor didnt work it would be basicly useless.

I think a lot of people have misunderstood what the G Sensor Protection actually does. It's not a cure-all for clumsy folk (not implying you're one of them, Sasso, but your mobile phone disasters might suggest otherwise! :rotfl: ); it merely senses when the unit is in free fall, and swings the read/write arm away from the surface of the HDD to protect the information already stored on it. And that's really all it does, according to my understanding based on Sony's press releases.

This is Sonystyle in the US. I wonder if Spectrum Analyzer means something different over the pond.

On the European Sonysytle it says 'Digital Sound Preset setting' instead.

Totally right... also when the unit is switched off Sasso, that read/write arm has been moved away from the HD's surface anyway - so it does exactely the same job as if it was switched on and the arm jolted away when the G-sensor detects the device in falling mode...

Would it be worth emailing Sony and asking them what this spectrum analyser is ?
