    Hi Andy,

i am just about to buy a NVGS 120 so I will be interest in any replys, But I assume that you are connecting by firewire (DV), not USB, from what I have read USB is only for downloading still photo,s, this may not be correct, but might be worth a try.

    Good Luck.

    Hi,
Well yes thats what i thought.
So i went to Maplins and got myself a firewire port and cable.
Told the guy there that i want to connect my mini dv camcorder up
and the cable he gave me was to big (camara end)so took it back today.
They told me the connection on the camara was a mini usb (????)
and could not supply me with a firewire to mini usb.
So well stuck now....what should i do??? where do i get one of those????
    Any idea anyone????
    Cheers,
    Andy.

A camcorder will always have a 4 pin firewire connection. A PC will normally have a 6 pin (sometimes both) firewire connections. The extra 2 pins are for carrying power to an unpowered device. Obviously a camcorder has a battery or mains power so will use the 4 pin connection.
Maplin do sell a 4pin > 6pin cable - product code: A98BF but at £19.99 is very expensive.

    Hi Mark,
    thanks for that.
So the 4pin on the camara end...do they come in two sizes.
Because the one maplins gave me was to big.
He said the one i need was like a mini usb.
    This is very confusing.
    Cheers,
    Andy.

No a 4pin firewire connection is a standard size. The only differences in size are between the 4 pin & 6 pin connectors. You do not want anything that is USB as this can not transfer full quality DV video. I think the salesman may have just been trying to discribe what the connector is like as it is very similar in looks and size to the mini USB connectors.

When buying just as for a firewire 4 pin to 6 pin cable. If it don't say that on the packet then don't buy it cause its the wrong lead. Be aware though that firewire can also be known as ieee1394, DV or iLink.

    Mark.
