My picture from the world cup does not fill my screen, but has a black border all round. As soon as the program finishes, it reverts to normal. It is OK with a terrestial broadcast, so I use my VCR as a tuner for this, but this is annoying. Anyone else experienced this recently, or are they out to get me?

All the World Cup action on the digital platforms is in 4:3 so if you are watching on a w/s TV you will get borders on the sides. If you are watching on a normal ratio TV with it set to display a w/s or letterbox picture then you will get borders on the sides and the top and bottom.
Normal analogue TV is unaffected as you have discovered.

Studio shots from both the BBC and ITV are shot in widescreen so they look "right" on both a w/s TV and a 4:3 that is set for w/s.

He's finally got the shirt back on, back to the action:)

Thanks for explanation, it's a 4:3 set, set to letterbox, it's just never done it before. Looks like it's all over...good for Renaldo!
