While some commit suicide for their personal or emotional problems, 22-year-old manual worker Jeon Tae-il chose to declare his belief in humanity by burning himself to death in a Korean labor protest in 1970.

A decade later, Kim Young-soo, a law-school graduate who was obsessed with the sacrifice of Jeon, tried to uncover the story of Jeon and write a biography for the young man. As Kim read Jeon's diary and interviewed people who used to know Jeon, not only did Kim better understand Jeon, but also inspire his own reason to live for.

Directed by Park Kwang-su. The film won numerous awards at home and abroad, including Baek Sang Award for Screenplay and New Actress (Kim Seon-jae), Dae Jong Award for Executive Production, Chun Sa Film Award for Best Film, Director, Photography, Leading Actor (Hong Kyeong-in), and was presented to the Contesting Field in the 46th Berlin Film Festival.
