As backwards as about 13 US states. So they'll likely use that as whataboutery in their defence of the bill.
What? What does it have to do with the US?

Are we sure it’s not another hoax the independent are all too keen to report?!

Box standard hazard perception. You got to anticipate that. Especially watch out for weaker participants in traffic.
First rule of "stationary" buses: expect someone to dart out from behind/in front of them.
Textbook mistake imo. Surely he's had defensive driving training as a HGV driver? I've had that with a few employers.

As much as I'm normally an advocate [read; preacher] for good observation and hazard perception, there was no reasonable way to avoid this happening on the part of the driver imo. Having watched the video multiple times, I don't see the joggers until they dart out from the front of the bus waiting to turn (not stationary/ parked/ letting passengers off either, it's at traffic lights).

Ref defensive driving, I don't believe HGV drivers have this training as standard, but I'm not a HGV driver so IMBW.

If I was the driver I would also be cautious, and he did say he was driving 20mph. Whether thats true or not I dont know.
But I think the majority of drivers would have fallen victim to hitting the lady no matter how careful they drive.
I agree on both counts :) Still doesn't change where the blame lies in traffic. Great that he was driving only 20mph, if not the ending could have been much worse.

Practically don't disagree with that, yet that doesn't change the hazard that was present and that it is a car vs pedestrian. Hence blame apportioned to the driver of the vehicle. Would be the same thing if the pedestrian was a cyclist, or moped or motorbike. Would have been different if the pedestrian was an HGV.

When looking at it from a legal standpoint, I'm sure you're right, when it's car vs. pedestrian, the car causes the injuries, so is normally held to blame. I just don't think that the car driver could have done anything differently.

If questioned in a court, the driver could quite happily stand up and tell the magistrate that he acknowledged that in a busy urban environment (as shown in the dashcam footage), it would be reasonable for pedestrians to possibly appear suddenly from between stationary vehicles and in order to reduce the severity of harm to pedestrians, he had reduced his speed to suit the situation.

It would not be reasonable to expect all vehicles on that road at that time to drive at a speed lower than 20 mph imo.

Not that I‘m that I really get that involved in talking about sport at work but apparently I shouldn’t even be considering and companies should clamp down on it.

Cheers,

As someone who hates both football and cricket I applaud that article. Gives us more time to discuss rugby and motorsport

So PC Specialist needs to be inclusive of women as they use computers too but you can't have a chat about football as they don't follow football?

I can't figure this out anymore.

To be fair, the vast majority of the responses, both male and female, is that Ann Francke is an idiot at best. It seems to be her view, not shared by many and she is using the privilege of her position to spout rubbish.

Clickbait.

Journalism these days is trash. Why is that an article ?

Worse than that. This is just the BBC website report. She was actually allowed to spout this trash on the BBC Radio 4 Today programme.

So not clickbait.

Cheers,

Nigel
Pretty sure Nick Ferrari also had her on his LBC breakfast show
