So I finally decide to get a TH42PW6 from Richer sounds, I go to the shop and the B :censored: ds have put the price up by £200. So I leave in a huff and go to ENL, a local specialist who have a panasonic TH42PE30 and and TH42PW6B side by side.

Now I thought these were mean to be the same screen basically, but the TH42PE30 looked fantastic, I mean really great, exactly what I want from a plasma(it also seems to win loads of awards) BUT the TH42PW6B looked very poor next to it. Salesman said it had the same feed etc, it was just TV probably Digital knowing ENL.

Can any one explain why there was such a difference, does the Viera bit means it gets some extra processing or something. Are they not really the same screen at all? Do I need to save more pennies and buy a TH42PE30 even though I won't use the speakers and already have a tuner ?

This plasma lark is very confusing. Oh BTW Richer sounds have dropped the price back down £100 now. It was obviousy a special Saturday price to stop me buying one !

I don't care what you saw, once you play with these screens and get the most out of the picture the PW6 is definitely a bit better, it is a little sharper than the Viera, mainly because you can go in with a JS RGB-vga or component converter with sky etc.

The feed was likely composite on scart, and what you saw, many would turn up their noses at. Richer sounds have PWD6 going cheap, you'll need a friendly dealer to supply the boards though. shop@panasonic? They've dug me out of the odd hole.

Hi happy, can confirm no problems what so ever with av sales, if your unsure phone them and have a chat.
I understand fully your concern because i had the same, but after searches on this forum and checking daily and then phoneing them i had every faith in them, and that has been justified, they emailed me when delivery was due, informing me there would be two shipments, one for the plasma, and the other for the wall bracket, component and scart board.
On mon at 7.30am, i think it was city link turned up with the bracket etc,
then at 11.30 kayoneil phoned me to confirm if someone was at home to receive screen in approx 1 hour and at 12.30 the delivery guy turned up, i gave him a lift in with plasma, we took it out of the box to check all was ok (it was) the rest is as i posted earlier.
So stop worrying, and get ya plasma, I live in the B'ham area if you are near and wanna have a look then let me know.

Richer sounds were doing the PW6 for 1299, then Friday afternoon it went to 1399. This morning it was 1499, which is when I went into the shop, now on the web its back to 1399. Whats going on here then ? I was actually going to buy one today if it had been 1299.

Do you think it will go back down again ? Or are Richer sounds running out of stock so no longer selling at a rock bottom price ? The sales man did admit it was 1299 to get people in to the store, and they were actually losing money at that price !

I have a panny PW7 (which is essentially the same as the PW6 so I've been told) and when I first got it I was really pleased with the picture. The DVD, XBOX, PS2 ect were connected by s-video. I have since connected the DVD and XBox with component cables and was really impressed with the picture (the DVD is slightly better through component and the Xbox is way better throught component). I have since spent time calibrating the picture with the DVE DVD and am blown away by the results. The picture is spot on (better than my sony 28" CRT) giving amazing detail in both bright and dark scenes. I've just watched Van Helsing which is mostly a dark film and the background detail is superb and the skin tones are excellent.

So, in short, what you see in the shops is nothing like what you will get at home once you've spent time calibrating it.

    Hope this helps ;)

    thanks for the responses.

If what MAW and Matt are saying is true and that a PW6/7 will give the same picture as what I saw on the PE30, then I'm going to be really impressed, alot of the plasmas look a bit poor in shops, even proper shops, (ie not currys) but the piccie I saw on the PE30 blew me away.

Thanks for the feedback on AV-Sales too Dartieman, I've seen posts from you before and after the purchase so its good to see they match what most people are saying here, I'm coming round to the idea of spending nigh on 2k on the internet

Anyone know first-hand if the AV-Sales warranty is any good, as in actually had the misfortune to need to use it ?

I'd recommend AV-Sales too, experienced exactly the same good service as dartieman, (phone call before delivery, staff definately put the customer 1st) this is a real av dealer that also sells on the internet.

The pricing thing is indeed PW6 stock running out. I can't get any now, so PW6 holds a small price premium for those who know how cheap it is to connect.
