Trying to buy new digital camcorder but need to be able to play existing analogue 8mm tapes; have tried sony dctrv265 but wouldn't play back the analogue 8mm tapes, just blue screen (despite the salesmans assurance). Old analogue recorder is broken so want to move to digital but one that will also enable the old analogue tapes to be put on to DVD via the PC....
any suggestions (im as thick as a whale omlette on this stuff so keep it simple! :)

Well it will have to be a digital 8 camera from Sony but not all the new ones play 8mm (for some obscure reason). The best bet is to try it out in the shop before you buy it.

Alternatively buy a cheap second hand 8mm and convert it to DV with a box or through a dv camera with analogue in
