when you have an active sub and amp, which order should you power them on? (actually from the mains) - amp then sub, or sub then amp - or doesent it really matter?

    cheers

Most people leave the sub switched on all the time. Many also leave the amp on all the time but I don't.

Amp always on last and off first.

    Now Theres a conflict.

I thought if you shut the sub off before the amp then any nasty turn off thumps (If any) would not be amplified by the sub.

What have you got against leaving your gear on, there are lots of good reasons to leave it on. Every time you turn it on it has to warm up , which can take a while , it will sound much better when it is warmed up. Constantly warming up then cooling down can reduce the life of certain components , the electricity hifi gear uses is minimal.

installer, totally agree with you on the stress placed on components being the worst when powering on - same applies to tv's. pc's etc, but lifstyle and the paranoia of others in my household also have to play a part as well i'm afraid.
