I need a way of connecting my Notebook (DELL) to my 32" CRT TV, as i've tired of watching DivX videos on my 15" CRT TV (via VGA)

Now what i need is a box that has a DVI or VGA connection that will take in a progressive rgbhv from Notebook VGA or DVI connection... and on the other side of the box should be the Component connections (Y PR PB) that should connect to my 32" CRT TV, the box should take progressive rgbhv and convert it to lossless NTSC/PAL progressive, as my TV only does NTSC Progressive . Sound inputs are optional (but would like) as i can use notebook speakers.

Has anything like that been invented..

I've tryed SVIDEO its awful, its hard to see text and images, i'd rather stick to the monitor than watch it in Svideo

Hello Jonny71

If you find a box that can take an HD signal and convert it without Loss to Standard Definition you'll be a very rich man!!!

Taking a Progressive RGBHV PC signal from the Digital or Analogue Output of your Laptop and converting it to an Analogue YPbPr 'video' signal is possible - though its going to be a lossy transpose.

If you can set the Laptop to Output 480p60 you require a signal converter - The Media Factory

If you cant set the Laptop to 480p60 you need a Scaler - Gefen Inc. - DVI to RGBS w/Scaler (Pre-Order)

Yikes, that some price (£150) anything cheaper

how much loss of quality will i get, as i only watch 480p and 576p material, not interested in HD at the mo.. (too expensive and over-hyped for now)

Don't need to worry about HD as the notebook will be set to output as 640 x 480 or 800 x 600 NOT! 1024 x 768 or above.

Notebook is a Dell Inspiron 9400 (one of these Core 'Kung-fu' Duo cpu) will i still need a scaler

Would a device of this sort be Mail order only or can it be purchased from a electrical store

I doubt its something you'll find in an electrical retailer - unless they are very specialised.

Except that one is component in and VGA out which is not really what you want is it?

Hello jonny71

As Mark says the JS Tech YUV to RGBHV converter is not going to work in your situation.
