Linspire is often seen as a simple distro that has been carefully constructed for it to be extra familiar to those used to Windows. It's the one that used to be called Lindows. Anyway, until 6th September it's free (usually $49.95)

I installed SuSE a few weeks ago and although it looks like an excellent OS it won't support my WLAN card so I havn't really bothered with it yet. :(

A shame - SuSE is my favourite distro! Well you should give Linspire a try anyway as it will also run as a 'Live CD' allowing you to see how well it deals with your hardware before you go to the trouble of installing it :)

I was always impressed by Mepis, another free linux distro with live CD option. Haven't used it in a while though.

I liked Mepis a lot but I could never get it to run at my monitor's native resolution 1280*1024 60Hz. For some reason it kept insisting on 61Hz, so I had to run 1024*768 scaled; which looks rubbish on an LCD!

There seem to be so many 'problems' with Linux, but people seem so dead set on using it. Nevertheless, I am going to try a copy of this Linspire. Thanks for the link. I wonder if I will be able to run a firewall/NAT for my LAN with it?
