I'm going to richer sounds tomorrow for my 1st system room is 13 by 15 foot but tv in the corner of the room (not ideal i know) so the speaker are going to be set up in an area around 13 by 8 area 13 foot away from tv corner seating area. bit of a nightmare i know. More to the point though i'm looking to spend between 500 and 700 on the system been looking at the sony strdh820 and the Tannoy HTS101 / Wharfedale DX1 / Cambridge Minx S215 sets. But was also thinking of getting the Yamaha RX-V673 with more scope for upgrading speaker in the future with either the Tannoy HTS101 / Wharfedale DX1 sets. Remember it's my 1st set so know it's going to be a big setup from my all in one to begin with. What would the wise people of the forums suggest would be the best way to spend my money?
System is going to be used with BT vision box UE51E6500 and PS3 i do quite a bit of streaming films through the tv / ps3. What to do??

    Thanks for helping.

Hello Dante cheers for the link it was one of the things I would have loved. The missus doesn't like the look of the Monitor Audio Vector even though its a bargain. So they were no go :(

The Yamaha may not be the best match to the Tannoy/Wharfedale speakers you have listed as both are described as warm sounding so the combination may end up lacking detail. Now it may work, depending on your personal sound preference but I would listen first to make sure. Speakers from Morduant Short, Mission and Monitor Audio would be a better match for the Yamaha receiver. Also the 673 deserves much better speakers than the ones you are looking at to get the best from it and make the extra cost worth it. If the budget is limited then you would be better spending less on the receiver to give you more for the speakers. As a general guide you can spend up to 3 times the price of the receiver on the speakers to get the best from the receiver. Although this is only a guide I would certainly always look to spend more on the speakers than the receiver.

I would go for either the Tannoy or Wharfedales and would be a tight call between them. Will not go far wrong with either so go listen to them both if possible and pick the ones that sound best too you.

As this set is still in my price range would it be a step up from the tannoys or wharfedales

    Sony STRDN820 and Q Acoustics 2000i.

I would take the qa over the tannoy or wharfedale but they are a fair bit bigger if size is an issue.
