WHats the quality like on a 42" Plasma if you don't use Progressive scan, is it still pretty good or do you really need prog scan for everything?

My Loverly Pioneer 656a doesn't do Prog scan, though my NTSC Gamecube and X-box will. It would mainly get used for DVD use though, just wondering if I will suffer from low picture quality or will it be comparible to my current CRT anyway?

    Depends which plasma

It is going to be displaying progressively because plasmas display progressively. If you input interlaced the plasma's de-interlacer is doing the work & if you feed it progressive the plasma will only have to scale.

Whether external or internal is better is going to depend on the plasma & the external de-interlacer.

Quality is excellent even without progressive.

I have yet to see a noticeable difference between progressive and non progressive picture.

Picture quality will be as sharp as a CRT and have perfect geometry, but blacks will appear more grey than a CRT.

Tonight I will be able to hook up my DVD player with the component cables arriving to my panny 6, so I will be able to tell you the difference.

Initially, I thought my pany flickered on certain Sky channels, but my italian sat "hotbird" and DVD was crystal clear, so checked with my old Tosh CRT 32" and the flickering on Sky was there aswell, only the panny brings out all the details.

But that new panny is a brilliant piece of work, I got mine through Liam of www.av-sales.co.uk who helped me through all the bits I needed and got delivery in a week
