Non Iphone O2 Contract

I have a standard( i.e. non iphone) O2 contract that runs out next Feb. I got given a 3G last year so just popped my sim in and added a web/data bolt on to my tariff.

Now i would like to purchase the iPhone 4 from an apple store. However i don't want to pay up the rest of my contract to get an iphone contract. Will O2 just send out a micro-sim for me or should i just get the scissors out?

I think you should be okay getting a new micro sim card from O2 and getting your contract transferred

Everyone keeps saying that O2 will transfer your contract onto a micro sim without paying for it. Which if true means you are good to go without paying to upgrade to the iPhone 4. I am a lone voice in pointing out if that is the case then there is no point in having the early upgrade offer and charging people to upgrade

On a separate note simplicity sim-only contract holders are adamant that they have been informed they can transfer their deal onto a micro-sim

Time will tell

Doesnt that depend on the length you have left on you're contract? If you've only got 3-4 months then £80 upgrade fee + £200 for iPhone 4 is a lot more attractive then £600 for a sim-free phone.

Yes O2 will transfer your existing contract onto a microSIM, but of course if you want an iPhone 4 on the old contract you'll have to buy it at full price. I think that's all anyone's saying. If you want a subsidized iPhone 4 then you have to pay out your old contract according to the upgrade plan.
