Have Windows phones got a chance? In what may ultimately prove a futile effort to gain some market share from Apple and Android smartphones, Nokia and Microsoft will be holding a launch event for the new Lumia 820 and Lumia 920. Both companies will be eager that Nokia can regain some of its former glories with the new devices; Nokia has posted losses of 3 billion euros in the last 18 months, forcing it to cut 10,000 jobs, whilst Microsoft will be more than a little keen to gain a foothold in the smartphone market, where Apple's iOS and Google's Android operating systems reign supreme. Windows phones currently make up only 3.7% of the global smartphone market, whilst Android devices account for 68% and iPhone's around 17%. With the new iPhone almost certain to be announced a week today, both parties will be hoping for a good reception and perhaps a little miracle.
