I had Sky+ installed this week and have noticed a whirring noise (presumably the hard drive) which, although not massively loud, is certainly loud enough to become irritating after a while.

Is this typical? Or is it worth me sending back the box? I'm not sure which box it is (Amstrad. Pace, whatever), but that's really irrelevant.

    Thanks!

it is just the fan keeping the hard drive cool. yes this is normal mine makes the same noise althought some say it isnt i think it is just that some people notice it more than others.

I find that the whining noise from Sky + is the missus when it has failed to record yet another programme for no apparent reason (or when it freezes on playback).

now feezing during playback is not a normal problem and does signify somthing is wrong. i had this to and a full system reset and reseting the LNB settings sorted this out.

Got engineer to look at whining noise in my armstrad box as the noise only happened on certailn channels. It turned out to be a fault in the box and he replaced it with a Pace box. Armstrad was quieter before it became faulty. Now with the Pace box I can hear the fan running - annoying
