Noisy Arcam Alpha 5 Plus CD player

I am hoping someone might be able to help me fix my elderly Arcam Alpha 5 cd player.

The player has recently started making a continuous whirring noise when a disc is spinning, as if something is moving around or rubbing that wasn't doing so before. I opened it up just now and it sounds like the noise is coming from the white puck that helps to hold a CD in place. Other than that, the cd player works perfectly, but the noise is sufficiently loud to be annoying!

The puck is loose in the hole where it sits, but from what I can tell that's correct as it needs to be able to move around. It shouldn't be anything to do with the gear belt/teeth problem with afflicts lots of these cd players, as I replaced that part a couple of years ago.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
