No video output on Sony KDL-46HX800 TV

I have just purchased a Sony KDL-46HX800 TV with 3D capability and inbuilt HD tuner, and when I went to connect my Sony RDR-HX910 DVD recorder (DVR) , I could find no outputs anywhere on the TV that could be connected to the DVR.

Can anyone please advise how I can record off this TV set?

Is this normal practice with the latest TV's, or have I made a bad purchase?

It is normal practice.

Most TV's do in fact provide an output but it is 'composite' - which is very low quality signal source which is not really adequate for modern standards of recording.

Additionally, recording from a TV provides no flexibility. The TV must be on to record , and you cannot watch another channel

The convention is always to have the requisite tuner inside the recording device to provide complete independence of operation from a TV.

So look to get a separate recorder.
