That’s me, I officially have no subs in my room. How I’ll cope is probably not too well.

With having a preference to a Sealed sub over Ported for a few reasons, that’s were my search is going. So bearing that in mind and most have probably seen pics of my room, I’m asking for some suggestions.

With a budget of ideally around 2k per sub as I’ll consider having two, I would prefer single driver units over something like a dual opposed variety.

So any suggestions as to what I should consider ?

Brand new only or would you consider graded/used?

    Good question.

Yes I would consider an excellent condition used sub. The consideration here though is being able to get a second one ‘if’ I felt the need/want.

What was lacking for you with the Sub3? Extension or output?

Have you looked at something like Rel 212SE? There were some mint graded examples floating around within budget - a less obvious choice perhaps.

Sealed PSA’s are a very obvious choice. Sealed 18’s?

Have you tried a JL? D113?

Obvious SB4000 or SB16U but perhaps not the best value unless you can find an ex dem.

It’s a shame we don’t have easy access to some of the other ID brands available in the US.

Rel G2 on eBay at £1500.

    DIY?

It’s not an easy choice. I’m hoping I’m happy with dual 15” S1510’s.

    Excuse the brain dump!

Not at all, I like the brain dump :smashin:

REL is not on the radar.

    PSA on the radar.

    JL on the radar.

I proper considered SVS but I doubt I will go that way after reading as much as I have.

    DIY is a no.

And you’re right, I don’t think it is an easy choice.

PSA S1811's would definitely be on my list and well within budget too. You've had some pretty good Sub's that for one reason or another haven't stayed the course .............. so you're obviously looking for something that they didn't provide.

The only other Sub's i can think of that might tick your boxes would be something from the likes of Funk Audio Subwoofers
Or Seaton Sound Seaton Sound, Inc – Seaton Sound Products
Or something from JL Audio Home Audio - Powered Subwoofers
SVS don't cut the mustard for me on price/spec.

Sometimes a change may not be due to performance but for other reasons.

Good call on the PSA S1811’s.

I’m not too keen on the import options but not totally out of the question.

And like you, I’ve just about discounted SVS.

I have no regrets getting a pair of S1811's, like you i had a preference for sealed and single drive units as i think the dual driver versions would be a little problematic in my room. I did a load of research before deciding on the PSA S1811's. I must admit it was a bit of a 'blind ...... or should that be 'Deaf' leap of faith, as i'd never heard them, nor was there any opportunity to hear them or do a home demo before committing to the purchase.

If we go out of the ‘common marketplace’ then blind buys are quite usual due to not being able to demo, hence part of the reason for this thread. And my purchase could well be a blind buy as well

S1811’s would be the obvious choice if you can accommodate them. I’d go with those if I had the space, 100%

Would their finish suit your room?

I think, lets be honest guys, there is not much of a choice here in UK or either EU compared to USA market, there Rhytmik, Velodyne, Seaton, Funk, HSU and more but the costs of import and taxes would be a killer, so the only option left here is a great company like PSA, plenty of positive reviews on avsforums, you can't go wrong here Dodge and end of the day you have a 30 day trial, so i don't see why you shouldn't go for it and hear it itself.

I can accommodate them, I had two Arendal Sub 3’s, so they wouldn’t be an issue.

The finish of PSA wouldn’t match the speakers but I’m not sure how much I’m bothered by that.

But why the S1811 over the S1510 ?

Yeah but you said 2k per sub, and there is no way you will fit within budget going for Seaton or other power house brand from states, flat import is minimum 500usd to 1000usd.

Rhytmik doesnt even post anymore of their products overseas only parts for DIY

Have you spoken to Tom about your room and heard his opinion on what would suit from the range?

I think it all depends from you, which size you should go and what are your needs, how loud you like to listen, how low you want them to go etc etc

It should link to post 2307 which explains the advantage of the 18” over the 15”... 50% more output, basically

You can try as well talk to guys on official PSA forum thread over avsforum, maybe they would shed some more light on differences between sizes etc.

BTW why not arendal anymore? You looking for upgrade or downgrade from those ?

Curious why you don't want dual opposed, as 2x psa s3010 would be in budget.

Were you using bass management? Dirac / Anthem / Antimode? Did the settings not sufficiently fix things? (I guess not)

It’s not about what settings I had before as I had no issues in that regard.
It’s where I go from here.
