Wondered if anyone out there has the Panasonic SC-HT500 connected to a Sky +/HD box to receive 5.1 sound?

The box has an optical out and the Pana amp only has SCART and Phono inputs.

Maplins do an Optical to Phono convertor : (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...rce=14&doy=3m8)

but I am not sure if the phono inputs or SCART on the receiver will process the digital 5.1 signal ?

Anyone tried it, or know of any other way to acheive 5.1 from an external source on this home theater system ?

    Thanks
    Rich.

You can only get 5.1 or DTS via a digital input i.e. optical or digi co-ax. I can't find any details on your amp but if as you say, it only has phono inputs (red/white) then you will only get Dolby Pro Logic at best (2.0 channel mixed to give surround sound).

This Home Theatre System boasts a Dolby Digital Decoder with DTS, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any way of connecting any external devices to it, so no DD5.1 from Sky, I'm afraid.
