I have an NEC Plasmasync 50MP1 which gives no picture other than a dark grey hue and a few crackles of the odd pixel when first fired up.

The self test works fine, all fans stay on and the unit appears active!, also if i press the "input select" button the screen flickers off and on a few times but no picture whatsoever - there isnt even an on-screen display menu!.

I've tried composite, rgb and dvi inputs all to no avail... any ideas! TIA!.

    Hello.
I too have an NEC 50MP1 with a similar problem. I get the on-screen display but it is illegible and when a picture signal is applied, I get some sort of picture in the bottom left hand corner.
Contacted NEC, who said that the screen is damaged and would cost approx. 5000 pounds to repair.
Took the unit to a friend who said the screen is OK as he gets test page but is incorrect. When he called NEC for advice they would not help him, saying that the unit needed to be repaired by them.
To cut along story short, is if you have any ideas or find a cheap solution please let me know.
    :lease:

yer.. nec seem not to be very helpful. instead they want around £170 to even look at the unit - money i can ill afford to speculate :( If your interested we could maybe make one good unit from the two and sell it (splitting the profit of course!) :) where abouts are you? (if your in the uk)

try TADL they warranty most makes and may be able to assist you, NEC will not supply you the parts but may to a few specialist NEC service centres!

What shows up in the bottom left hand corner of your screen? Is it just fuzzy multi-colored box, or something else? I would like to buy this from you if you are interested. Thanks
