I am using a JBL home cinema system with a Sony plasma TV. In addition to the normal analogue audio inputs, the JBL system has digital audio inputs (co-axial and optical). However, the Sony TV has only analogue outputs. Is it possible to buy an analogue to digital converter to interface between the Sony TV and the JBL system? I am currently using the analogue inputs on the JBL system, but would prefer to use the digital inputs if possible. Any help here would be much appreciated.

    Bernie.

Ok, what you want to do would be pointless and would reduce your sound quality.
At the moment the sound is being broadcast to you digitally (whether you are on Sky, Freeview or good old NICAM). Your TV is converting this to analogue in order to play it through the speakers.
If you hooked up a A/D converter the digital signal would first be converted to analogue by the TV, then your A/D converter would convert it back to digital and then your JBL would convert it back to analogue!!!
What would be the point of that??
Unless your Sky box or TV can output a raw digital signal which can sent straight to the JBL, there is no point.

    Hope this helps. :smoke:

What you are suggesting is rather akin to putting 5* petrol in a Reliant Robin :)

Save your money. A JBL is a good starter system. Save a bit more, and when you are ready go for a good cinema amp and speakers, with Dolby 5.1.
If you have Sky+ you can output the optical connection to the JBL.

I hope this doesn't sound too snobby
