Nissan Almera alarm help???

Last night I went to drive home, switched the alarm off, unlocked the car and opened the door .. promptly set the alarm off.
I continually pressed the deactivator on the key fob but it didn't respond, even though the red light was flashing showing that the signal was being sent.

I tried for about 15 minutes to deactivate the alarm before giving up and driving the 40 minute journey home complete with piercing alarm and hazard lights going off repeatedly .... how embarrassing

Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?

If it's beyond repair, how do I disconnect the alarm, I obviously can't drive the car with the alarm going the whole time.

If you dont have a code for your stereo.
CHECK YOUR STEREO FIRST.
Remove negative terminal on battey for 3 minutes to reset your alarm.
